Elgin moved up to second in the Third Division with a 1-0 win over struggling Montrose at Borough Briggs.
Craig Frizzel opened the scoring for the hosts midway through the first half. The midfielder netted his third goal of the season from close range by turning in Jake Inglis' left-wing cross.
Dougie Cameron could have equalised shortly afterwards but he turned Aaron Sinclair's cross over the bar from six yards.
Sinclair tried his luck after the interval but a speculative 25-yard effort cleared the frame of the goal.
With the clock ticking down, Montrose looked to capitalise on their possession but Daryl Nicol's shot was blocked bravely by Elgin's David Niven.
Elgin held on for a slender victory to maintain their promotion push, while Montrose remain ninth.
