O`Donoghue at the double for City
Ross O'Donoghue and Jason Crooks scored their first goals of the season as Elgin beat Montrose 3-1 at Borough Briggs.
After Brian Cameron had gone close for Elgin early on, O`Donoghue struck two quickfire goals to put the hosts in control.
The first was a neat finish into the bottom corner from the edge of the area after 10 minutes. The second a 30-yard effort seven minutes later which flew over goalkeeper Michael Andrews.
Scott Johnston pulled a goal back for Montrose with a rising 20-yard shot just before the half-hour mark, and only a fingertip save from Alexander Clark to divert Sean Pierce`s shot around a post prevented an equaliser before the break.
Andrews parried a header from Stuart Leslie before Craig Gunn followed up and hit the crossbar from seven yards out.
Crooks restored Elgin`s two-goal advantage in the 66th minute, steering home after Mark Nicolson`s shot came his way.
Johnston could have pulled another goal back for the visitors but he shot wide with 11 minutes remaining.
