Mark Ferry hit a late equaliser as Queens came from behind to salvage a point with their only shot on target in the entire match.
Queens dominated possession in the opening half hour without putting Montrose under any serious pressure in the final third of the pitch.
The Montrose back four easily dealt with the Spiders front pairing of David Weatherston and Frankie Carroll as the Spiders failed to turn their superiority into goal-scoring chances. The closest effort came from Alan Trouten, who sent a snap-shot wide of the target from 10 yards.
Weatherston had an excellent opportunity to break the deadlock eight minutes before the break. Paul Paton played the ball across to the young striker 12 yards from goal, but Weatherston sent a first-time effort wide, despite having enough time to take a touch before shooting.
Weatherston passed up another excellent chance to score in first half injury time. He took the ball round Montrose goalie Andy Reid, but then had a clumsy touch as he took the ball wide giving Chris Higgins enough time to get back and block the striker's effort.
Montrose were a much-improved team after the break, and both Greg Henslee and Paul Napier had long-range effort well saved by David Crawford.
The visitors' spirited start to the second half paid immediate dividends as Andy Rodgers opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Damiano Agostini tripped Greig Henslee inside the area.
Queens pushed forward for a leveler, and Ferry finally netted late on with a low strike from the edge of the area.
